Sports Legends with Bevo – Ep #15 – Mark Woodforde – His awkward moment with the great John McEnroe.

The word ‘Legend’ can be used quite loosely but this man definitely fits the mould. Woodforde grew up in Adelaide and joined the men’s professional tennis ATP Tour in 1984.

He went onto win four singles titles, including his hometown Adelaide tournament twice and despite having more success as a doubles player, he even reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 1996.

His partnership with fellow Australian and the other half of the Woodies, Todd Woodbridge was extremely successful. They won eleven Grand Slams together including a record six Wimbledons.

They were also named the ATP Doubles Team of the Year on four occasions and in all won 61 ATP doubles tournaments together.

Woodforde’s first grand slam title success wasn’t with Woodbridge, it was actually in 1989 when he partnered up with the great John McEnroe to win the US Open together.

In our chat on Sports Legends with Bevo, Woodforde shared some hilarious stories about McEnroe and how he completely did a 360 with his opinion on the controversial American great and the influence that Mark’s dad Ray had on his career plus much more.
